The Crimson Skyline

The Crimson Skyline

A Contemporary Interpretation of Festivity

For the final installation before Christmas in the First Class Lounge, The Crimson Skyline was conceived as a deliberate departure from the traditional Christmas tree. Rather than recreating a familiar symbol, the design deconstructs it, translating festive spirit into architectural language. The result is not a tree in the conventional sense, but a sculptural composition that speaks to modernity, travel, and refined celebration.

Inspiration Drawn from Cities and Cultures

The installation draws its visual identity from the sharp silhouettes of contemporary city skylines and the enduring curves of Eastern and Slavic domes. These references merge into vertical forms that rise like festive towers, evoking both movement and monumentality. Each structure feels intentional and composed, echoing the rhythm of an imaginary city shaped by travel, culture, and seasonal warmth.

Structure, Form, and Material Dialogue

At the core of The Crimson Skyline is a strong graphic framework formed by Red Cornus. Its linear rigidity creates a sculptural cage—precise, architectural, and protective. Within this structure lies a vibrant vegetal heart composed of Pinus Strobus, offering softness and depth, while dense clusters of velvety red Amaryllis introduce richness, volume, and a sense of ceremonial grandeur. The contrast between structure and softness defines the composition’s visual tension.

Verticality as a Narrative Device

Verticality plays a central role in the storytelling of this installation. The traditional Christmas tree is transformed into a tower, while ornaments evolve into domes, reinforcing the architectural narrative. This upward movement mirrors aspiration and journey—an appropriate metaphor in a space dedicated to global travelers. The installation invites the eye to travel upward, allowing the festive magic to unfold through height, rhythm, and proportion.

A City of Red and Gold

More than decoration, The Crimson Skyline presents itself as an imagined city rendered in red and gold. It welcomes guests not through excess, but through clarity of design and controlled opulence. The palette reinforces warmth and celebration, while the structured composition aligns with the elegance and precision expected within a First Class environment.
